What is a Home Information Pack (HIP)?

A Home Information Pack (HIPs) is a set of documents providing important information about a property, its energy efficiency, boundary ownership and planning permissions.

Although available initially on a voluntary basis, properties marketed for sale in England and Wales now require a Home Information Pack (HIP) which must also include a home energy rating, this became compulsory for residential properties from 14th December 2007.

Home Information Packs have been introduced to improve home buying and selling for the consumer and as part of a wider action to cut carbon emissions from homes.

This means that every person selling a home after 14th December 2007 must have commissioned a HIP before putting their property on the market.
